Common Questions

Below you'll find answers to the questions we hear most from clients. If your question isn't covered here, we'd love to hear from you directly.

Venetian plaster and most of our decorative finishes can be applied to properly prepared surfaces including drywall, plaster, concrete, brick, and previously painted walls. The substrate must be clean, dry, and free of loose material. We assess every surface during the consultation and will advise on any preparatory work needed before application.

A typical residential room takes between 5 and 10 working days depending on the size, the number of finish coats, and the technique. Complex projects with custom colors, metallic leaf, or trompe l'oeil detail can take considerably longer. We provide a detailed timeline during the design consultation based on your specific project scope.

Yes. Venetian plaster and Limewash finishes are inherently more durable than standard paint; they breathe, move slightly with the building, and resist cracking. For commercial and hospitality environments, we offer reinforced systems designed specifically for high-traffic use. All finishes can be gently cleaned with a soft, damp cloth. We do not recommend abrasive cleaners.

Absolutely. One of the defining characteristics of our work is the ability to create custom colors and effects precisely matched to your design intent. We work from physical samples, paint chips, fabric swatches, and reference images. For complex color work, we can prepare sample boards on actual wall sections prior to full application at a nominal cost.

Pricing varies significantly based on finish type, surface area, access complexity, and any custom work involved. A single accent wall in Venetian plaster typically starts at a higher per-square-foot rate than a full-room application due to setup overhead. We provide detailed proposals following the design consultation. We do not offer quotes without an on-site assessment: every project is unique.

Frequently and enthusiastically. A significant portion of our work comes through design professional referrals. We are accustomed to working within the architect and designer workflow: attending site visits, providing finish schedules, producing sample boards, and coordinating with other trades on site. We are happy to sign standard NDA agreements and communicate directly with your design team.

We stand firmly behind the quality of our craftsmanship. All work is guaranteed against defects in application for a period of two years from completion. This guarantee covers failures due to application error but does not cover damage caused by the client, structural movement beyond normal building tolerances, or unusual environmental conditions. Full terms are provided with every project proposal.

We provide a detailed preparation checklist with every project confirmation. Generally, rooms should be cleared of furniture and valuables, walls should be free of hanging pictures or fixtures, and the space should be accessible via a clear path. We handle all surface preparation, masking, and protection of adjacent areas. If you have pets or specific access concerns, please discuss these with us in advance.

Decorative finishes are highly customized and often require design guidance, finish selection, and project planning. Consultation fees are paid prior to scheduling and are credited toward the project when moving forward with Alchemy Wall Studio.

Small accent wall projects may take 1–2 days. Larger decorative finish projects may take several days. Timelines vary depending on project size, finish selection, preparation requirements, and curing or drying times.
