Decorative Finish

Venetian Plaster

Luminous depth, hand-built layer by layer

The Art of Venetian Plaster

Venetian plaster is one of the oldest and most refined decorative finishes in the world — a technique that has graced the walls of Renaissance palaces and contemporary luxury homes alike. Made from marble dust and slaked lime, each coat is hand-troweled, built up in successive layers, and burnished to a depth and luminosity that no paint or synthetic coating can replicate.

At Alchemy Wall Studio, every Venetian plaster project begins with your space: the light sources, the architecture, the palette, and your vision. We mix custom colors on-site and apply the finish in multiple sessions, allowing each layer to cure before the next is added. The result is a surface with genuine depth — one that changes character with the light, and improves with age.

What Makes It Distinctive

  • Natural marble dust and slaked lime — breathable, durable, and non-toxic
  • Infinite custom color matching — from luminous whites to deep, jewel-like saturation
  • Responds to light dynamically — matte, satin, and high-polish burnish options
  • Suitable for walls, ceilings, fireplace surrounds, columns, and curved surfaces

How It's Done

The Application Process

01

Surface Assessment

We inspect and prepare the substrate — skim-coating, priming, and addressing any imperfections. Venetian plaster demands a sound base; we never skip this step.

02

Color Development

Working from your brief and finish samples, we mix custom tints on-site and test them in your actual light conditions before committing to the full application.

03

Multi-Layer Application

Two to four coats are applied by hand using a Venetian steel trowel. Each layer is allowed to cure fully before the next is added, building the characteristic depth.

04

Burnishing & Sealing

The final coat is burnished with a polished steel blade to achieve the desired sheen — from soft satin to high mirror-gloss. A penetrating sealer protects the finish for decades.
