Hand-Applied Venetian Plaster, Limewash & Wood Slat Feature Walls in Charles Town

Studio Home Base

Charles Town is the studio's licensed home base — a Jefferson County seat with a quiet historic district of nineteenth-century storefronts along W. Washington Street, newer subdivisions rising east along Route 9, and the kind of client who knows the difference between a troweled plaster and a roller finish. Every Alchemy Wall Studio project starts here, and a great deal of them stay here: limestone-tone Venetian plasters for restored Federal-style homes, soft mineral limewashes for primary suites, and acoustic wood slat feature walls for new construction in the surrounding Eastern Panhandle corridor.

Finishes We Apply

Decorative Finishes for Charles Town Homes & Businesses

Three finishes carry most of the work we do in Charles Town — Venetian plaster for the depth that suits a historic district interior, limewash for the breathable softness that reads on both old plaster and modern drywall, and wood slat walls for the new construction along Route 9 where acoustic comfort and a warm material palette matter as much as the surface itself. Each is hand-applied on-site by the studio, mixed and matched for the room it sits in, and finished with the same studio waxes, hardwax oils, or burnished seal that the material asks for.

Finish

Venetian Plaster

The studio's flagship finish and the one that reads most clearly against Charles Town's historic-district architecture — luminous, multi-layered, and burnished to the depth of marble. Mixed on-site from marble dust and slaked lime, it brings depth to primary suites, dining rooms, and fireplace surrounds in both restored Federal-style homes and newer East Route 9 builds across the Eastern Panhandle.

Finish

Limewash

A mineral finish that breathes with the wall it sits on — important in Charles Town's older housing stock along W. Washington Street, where original plaster substrates demand a vapour-permeable coating. The studio's limewash is mixed by hand from dry earth pigments and sealed with a natural wax that keeps the breathable matrix open while standing up to the daily life of a Charles Town household.

Wood Slat Walls

Hand-installed solid-species slat systems that anchor the newer subdivisions east of Charles Town along Route 9, where primary suites, media rooms, and open-plan living areas ask for both acoustic comfort and a warm material counterpoint to limestone-tone plaster. Each slat wall is finished with a matte hardwax oil that lets the grain read true.

Local Projects

Charles Town Projects

Charles Town is the studio's home base, and many of our commissions sit within the historic district itself — nineteenth-century homes along W. Washington Street and the surrounding blocks of the Jefferson County seat. Federal-style interiors, original plaster substrates, and clients who care about hand-built finishes rather than off-the-shelf paint. The work here often starts with substrate assessment and historically sympathetic color matching, and it tends toward limestone-tone Venetian plasters and soft mineral limewashes that read quietly against the district's quiet streetscape.

The newer construction along Route 9 has grown into the other pillar of our Charles Town practice — primary suites, media rooms, and open-plan living areas in subdivisions east of the historic core, where acoustic comfort and a warm material palette matter as much as the surface itself. That's where the wood slat feature walls do most of their lifting, paired with hand-troweled plaster accents on fireplace surrounds and dining-room walls. Both kinds of project — restored period and new build — live within a short drive of the studio on the Jefferson County side of the Eastern Panhandle corridor.
